At Donna's Dog Training we train your dogs to trust & respect you, not fear you. We use psychology, not force!

Donna's mentor is Dr. Ian Dunbar, a veterinarian, animal behaviorist, and dog trainer who received his veterinary degree and a Special Honors degree in Physiology & Biochemistry from the Royal Veterinary College (London University) plus a doctorate in animal behavior from the Psychology Department at UC Berkeley, where he researched the development of social hierarchies and aggression in domestic dogs.

We follow the Dunbar way and have had amazing success in doing so!

PATIENCE * REPETITION * CONSISTENCY

Dog training is an important aspect of having and raising a dog. It is not meant to turn your dog into some kind of robot who follows commands accurately and mindlessly. Dog training is all about making the bond between you and your dog stronger. It is about teaching your dog the basic rules and manners to make him a safer pet as well as a pleasant companion.

Dog training is not about subduing your dog to follow your every whim; it is about communication. Regardless of your purpose for having a dog, whether it is for company or for protection, you should train your dog so that you will not have any behavioral problems with it in the future. Dog training will turn your frisky puppy to a more docile dog that will obey your command and stay away from trouble, not from fear but from respect.

Dog training is highly recommended regardless of your lifestyle or the breed of your dog. It is also recommended to start training your dog while still a puppy, as early as 8 or 9 weeks. The younger they are, the better, they are like a sponge that absorbs every command so quickly and everlasting! Older dogs are more difficult to train, but not impossible. Sometimes, different dog breeds may require different dog training techniques. For instance, you can't use the same technique to train a large Great Dane and tiny Chihuahua.

You have to possess patience and perseverance to always be consistent in your commands so that your dog will learn faster and more effectively. You should also respect your dog. Remember that you chose him and he didn't choose you! You should treat him right in the first place, because if you don't you will end up with an unhappy dog who will likely run away from you and/or be quite difficult to train.

Obedience

Our obedience lessons include “the name game” (learn their name), “come” (recall), “sit”, “watch me” (focus), “stand”, “down” (lay down), “stay”, “off” (no jumping up on people), “bite inhibition & no bite/chew”, “wait” (at thresholds), “proper leash walking” (no pulling), “leave it”, “drop it”, “place”, “no door dashing”, “touch”, and “potty training assistance” (if necessary). We often include some fun stuff like “shake”, “high five”, “army crawl” and “roll over”.

Behavioral Modification

We offer Customized Behavioral Modification packages. Bernhardt, a former student (the beautiful Pitbull mix), helping me build Stella's (a sweet Terrier mix) confidence. Stella is fearful around ALL dogs (big, small, male, female, it doesn't matter). Bernhardt has been wonderful therapy for little Stella!

Our professionals help dogs with fear, anxiety, leash reactivity, food guarding, separation anxiety/ destructive chewing/excessive barking/potty problems, and more.

AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Certification

We will train your dog to pass The American Kennel Club’s ‘Canine Good Citizen’ (CGC) test!

The CGC Certification is a requirement for those interested in the Animal Therapy or some Service Dogprograms.

The CGC certification can also be helpful when renting an apartment or condo, and may even save you some money on your homeowner’s insurance, as many companies now offer discounts for CGC-Certified dogs.

Trick Training

We now offer a trick training course! Our series of trick training sessions start with simple stuff like shake, high-5, and rollover, only if your dog doesn't already know those commands. We also teach army crawl, sit pretty, speak, spin, twirl, back up, wave bye bye, through (figure 8/walking through legs), stickem' up/bang bang, cover your eyes, balance treat on nose, wait, toss, catch, and More!

Socialization & Playtime

We proactively arrange and/or attend play dates & socialization meetups. Also, our Puppy Level 2 package consists of a great deal of socialization once your puppy has had all of his/her vaccinations.
